言談與文本層次的分析，是個萬花筒。 Discourse and text analysis is like a kaleidoscope.

政治領域的言說分析很有意義：

• 情緒，語用，立場，論證，核實信度，與意識形態交織的語言戰場。

• 做完分析同時貢獻於社會。

• 結合量化數據，威力更驚人。

實際上可以做什麼語言分析？

• Discourse functions of modal adverbs (e.g., 當然，沒錯，絕對，明顯地) and modal verbs.

Disjuncts: related to the speaker's 'authority' for (or the speaker's comment on) the accompanying clause.

像是 obviously, clearly 通常被解釋成主要的 items reflecting speaker stance。還可細分 style disjuncts (老實說，一般來說，就個人來說)，和 content disjuncts (無疑的，也許)。

Conjuncts: related to the speaker's comment in one quite specific respect: her assessment of how she views the connection between two linguistic units.

像是 however, in addition 等 function primarily as cohesive devices in the discourse.

「當然」有客氣用法 politeness function；有自我肯定 self-validation；有回答問題 response to questions；有讓步 concessive 等等，當然，還有其他的用法 :-)
